I will examine the prose at the paragraph, sentence, and word level looking at the flow of the writing so that gaps in logic, changes in tense, inappropriate language and poor descriptions become apparent.

  • Line editing is about vocabulary, style and clarity.

  • Copy editing is about grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage.

I will read each word, one line at a time, and focus on the clarity and flow of your manuscript. This involves a close look at:

  • dialogue, including use of tags and proper punctuation;

  • authentic phrasing;

  • confusion in tense or point of view;

  • proper paragraph and section breaks;

  • consistency in spelling and syntax, as well as capitalization and hyphenation;

  • repetition and lengthy passages;

  • word choice; and

  • how the words contribute to the overall tone of the work.
