WORKING TOGETHER
SETTING EXPECTATIONS
The best outcomes result when both of us have clear expectations from the get-go. This means I have a clear idea of what you require, and you have a clear understanding of what I can do for you.
Agreeing upon the type of work required determines the time requirement and the cost.

Offering kind and careful truth.
Evaluating your work so you can take it to the next level.
It’s tough to send your writing out into the world. It reminds me of sending children off to school.
I share this to assure prospective clients that I will “handle with care.” However, you aren’t looking for a new best friend, so that you will receive a professional summary of your manuscript.
When to engage? When you’ve got a solid manuscript developed and you’ve completed your second or third draft, this is likely the time for a beta read.
I will provide a comprehensive evaluation of your manuscript.
Copy & Line Edit
When it’s time to dive into the detail.
These are your words, but sometimes you can no longer see the forest for the trees.
When you are happy with the big picture, it is time to take the next step.
I will examine the prose at the paragraph, sentence, and word level looking at the writing flow so that gaps in logic, changes in tense, inappropriate language, and poor descriptions become apparent.
Line editing is about vocabulary, style, and clarity.
Copy editing is about grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage.
DETAILS:
A line-by-line edit
I will read each word, one line at a time, and focus on your manuscript's clarity and flow. This involves a close look at:
dialogue, including the use of tags and proper punctuation;
authentic phrasing;
confusion with tense or point of view;
proper paragraph and section breaks;
consistency in spelling and syntax, as well as capitalization and hyphenation;
repetition and lengthy passages;
word choice; and
how the words contribute to the overall tone of the work.
