Tin Roof

Do we ever know our parents?

Informed by my experience as a former Ironman triathlete, accomplishment at any cost is fused with a fictionalized account of the May 2000 water tragedy in Walkerton, Ontario. The story reveals humanity at its best and worst as trauma, regret, love, and desire propel the Macfarlanes to understand and accept what it means to be a family.

Tin Roof is the journey of three adult siblings in the aftermath of their father’s death. Conflicted between their father having taken his own life or dying accidentally, the Macfarlane children learn to carry on, asking did they ever know their father. Transgression, redemption, forgiveness, and what it means to be human are wrapped around the external challenge of the eldest son’s attempt at an ultra-marathon swim three months after losing his father while unraveling tragic circumstances from the past.
